Triad Genuine Dam Gate

Extending Gate Life

TRIAD GENUINE DAM GATES®

EXTENDING GATE LIFE

Dam Gate® gaskets, like your skin, are sensitive to:

  • Chemicals
  • Excessive Heat
  • UV Radiation from the sun

Some water with iron or alkaline content and chemicals used in chemigation will attack the gasket material.

In addition, all plastic will "creep" under constant pressure. This is the slow yielding to pressure which means the Dam Gate® that was tight last year can be loose this year.

Here are some tips to extend the useful life of Triad Dam Gates®:

SunStore the gated pipe with gates on the bottom, away from direct sunlight. Like your car dashboard, the gasket is affected by heat buildup and can be permanently deformed.

FireKeep gates and pipe at least 20 feet away from burning ditches. If it's too close to stand near the fire, it's too close for the gates.

Store gates in the closed position. Storing in an open position can cause gates to become deformed and leak.

Smooth all rough edges around the gate hole with a file or knife. Pipe holes often have sharp edges on the inside that can cut the gasket.

RulerBe sure the gate hole is no less than 1-1/4" wide. This will allow free movement of the Dam Gate®.

Be sure you have the right size gate for your irrigation pipe. Gate sizes are identified on the bottom of the gasket. The 6" Dam Gate® will fit 6" irrigation pipe and the 8" Dam Gate® will fit either 8" or 10" irrigation pipe.

ClipThe clip holding the Dam Gate® Top and Dam Gate® Bottom Gasket together can loose tension over time. If this happens, replace the clip with a new one. Dam Gate® Clips are available from your local Triad dealer.
